I'm spending a few days at our corporate office in the California Bay Area, and snuck out a bit early this afternoon for a ride in the hills above Berkeley on a co-worker's 998SP Ducati.

Just thought I'd share that with you all... life doesn't suck.

Why, ya rat bastad!! :D Hey, enjoy it while you can Scott! While Skyline and the roads around Berkeley are fun, you should to do Mt. Tam north of the bridge. Or head out East a ways and go do Mines Rd. all the way up to the Lick observatory on Mt. Hamilton, then down into San Jose. But you better have 3/4 of a day for the ride out, up, and down.

You gotta love Ca., my sister lives in Pleasanton and Mines road is about a 10 minute ride from there out to Livermore. Another 5 minutes has you in the middle of nowhere on a road with so many curves it'll wear you out! :D And some killer scenery to boot.

The favorite still has to be PCH-1 N or S of the Bay. Here I am on Rick Z's RC south of Monterrey. smile.gif http://web.wt.net/~yzfr1/pch-gary-corner.jpg

Here's a couple sites with a lot of good roads to ride out there if you find the time, or ever find yourself in that area. Have fun bud! :D

www.moto-rama.com/best1.htm (http://www.moto-rama.com/best1.htm)

The second one has a lot of really good info on local stores, hangouts, etc for the area. You'll just have to cruise around it some.

Weather? Oh, I think 'spectacular' would be a reasonable description. Mid 70's, sunny, slight breeze coming in across the bay. I'm think when I'm out here next week, I may stay over on for the weekend, rent a bike and head down the coast for a couple of days.

Oh man... what a pic... what a ride... deja vu on that weather! I would love to go ride up through the coast. I was born in Cali and still have relatives there... love the place.

Hey Scott, if your up for renting a bike check out Cruise America. (http://www.cruiseamerica.com) Go to the motorcycle rental section and find the Bay Area. They have new '02 VFR's for rent. Or on the moto-rama web site I listed in the above post you can find some other rental places that have some BMW RT's for rent in area also.

Gary, Thanks for the information. I've already found Cruise America, and am making plans to rent a VFR for a long weekend sometime in September. I'm traveling an obscene amount with work these days, so I might as well make the most of it and enjoy a weekend while I'm out west. I thought about doing the Harley thing, but the roads out here are just too good to waste on anything other than a nice sport-tourer.
