We actually bought this thing back in April when we were home for Easter. Hopefully we'll find a truck this week to pull it because the 4.8L K1500 we're driving now just won't cut it.

Hey, the banks got all kinds of money. Hopefully I won't be anywhere near the full term on this thing when I get it paid off because we financed it over 15 years and we'll end up paying double the sticker if we take that long to pay it off.
The plan is to take out some savings that are locked up until 2009 and pay the thing off.

I've been a good boy for the last number of years and managed to sock away a good chunk of change. It's time to spend 'er.

You're really going to think I'm a prick when I post pictures of the new truck later this week.

It's schweet.

Looks something like this:

Going to think you're a prick? To late! :D Nah, jealous maybe, but that's about it.

You needed one of those campers with the ramp door in the back for your bikes, that way you have an even better excuse to come back to Dallas!

Wait until you ride in this thing.
Specs (http://www.gmc.com/sierra/specsEngine.jsp?vehicle=2500hd)
360HP, 650ft/lbs, plus a 6 speed Allison tranny that makes the thing drive like it's a gas engine.

The wimpy Ford.
Ford Specs (http://www.fordvehicles.com/trucks/superduty/features/specs/#per)
325HP, 570ft/lbs

Rattly Dodge Cummins
Dodge Specs (http://www.dodge.com/ram_2500_3500/capability.html)
325HP, 610ft/lbs, and an engine loud enough to wake the neighbours when you start it.

Oh yeah, and there is always room at Casa Carlson. If someone from the TSBA shows up in town and I don't have room at the house, I'll personally foot the hotel bill.

Already have plans to put a hitch on the back of the 5th and build myself one of those wiggle wagons you love so much. Going to get a 6x10 or 6x12 vnose trailer. Room for the dirtbike and a streetbike when I come back in the winter.

I look at that blue sky and the water on the ground (indicative of precipitation), and I long to be far north. :(

Like bikes, we don't drive spec sheets.

The new Dodge Cummins is substantially less noisy than the offerings from either Ford or GM. It also gets better mileage when pulling a load and is, in the truck circles, considered unequaled.

The difference is such that there are several kits to put the Cummins engine and drivetrain in a Ford or GM truck.

Personally, I'm not impressed with the durability of GM vehicles (I've had a few). I like the Ford but all that money for the sub-par Powerstroke is not a fiscally responsible decision. The Dodge looks blande (interior and exterior) but it's got it where it counts for a big truck!

Regardless, it is your purchase. Just do so informed.

I would debate this forever. I've heard them both running. Standing at the hood of this GM, you can have a conversation with the truck idling. You CANNOT do that with a Dodge and definitely not with a Ford.

I would agree 100% that the Cummins is a better diesel powerplant. That's what they do, they are the best at it.
Just like the Allison tranny in the GM. They build the best trannys in the heavy truck business and it's the reason so many highway tractors have Allison's in them.

There is a night and day difference in driving the GM in comparison to the other two trucks when you aren't pulling which is how the truck will be used the majority of the time.

I'm not necessarily saying that the GM is the best truck for all people or all occasions but it's the best truck for us.

That's the explanation I'm giving my buddy. He's one of those "people who buy expensive stuff must be stupid" people.
He's not going to approve at all but oh well. He's not making the payments.

People who buy expensive crap must be stupid.
People who buy expensive stuff are enjoying life.
(Hope that clarifies it for your one-track minded friend.) ;)

Thanks Carl.
Just got the hitch installed in the truck yesterday. I'll post some pics of that. We're going to pick up the trailer on Saturday.
I'm going to need a wide-angle lens to get the truck and trailer into the same picture.
