If your looking for a new radar detector, Aerostitch Rider Warehouse had new Escort 9500i's on sale for $315, usually sold for $450. The $315 price puts it just above the normal $299 of the 8500 X50.

The 9500i is discontinued for it's replacement, the 9500ix (which I now use). The only difference between the two is being able to download a red light camera / speed trap location database into the ix. This requires an additional subscription for the monthly updates from Escort.

They both use GPS technology to allow you to mark your known false alarms along your usual routes. They also will not go off with speeds below 15 mph, so running around the grocery store parking lot, or mall, does not continually set off the detector.

I've been running radar detectors for 30 years and these units are by far the best I've ever used in regards to continually going off. Once I had my usual routes run a couple of times, the unit either "learned" (it has a feature that if you go past the same spot three times and it receives the same band on the same frequency, it marks the spot as a false location) false spots or I had them marked into it. After that, it stays pretty quite, other than picking up actual radar. It also has some nice features such as having a volt meter option, or GPS speed showing on the readout.

So, if your looking for a new radar I'd suggest looking at Escorts new line up. The price being offered is a pretty good deal and thought someone might want a heads up....

thanks...my 8500 recently bit the dust (won't pwr up) after many years of well abused use. I'll likely still send it in for repair, but time to step to the 9500 line.

Regarding the false alarms, are they mostly X band? As best I can tell, the only radar I've come across in Texas is Ka. Once or twice in other states I've seen K band hits from cops. I just turned the X band off on my V1 and the world is a much quieter place.

I've found it depends on where you are. Here in SA I get a lot of K band false signals, very, very few X (none of the LEO Dept's run X around here so I just turned it off), a false Ka every know and then (It will not let you mark a Ka band signal as a false signal spot. Majority of those ARE going to be LEO radar. But I do have a couple spots on one of our freeways that's gotta be a false).

I found up around DFW area it didn't false much, but indicated serveral red light camera's as I passed by intersections on the Frwy. It also did not go off on laser when it looked to me like he was pointing it right at us in the fast lane coming at him at 20 & 35. He may not of had the trigger pulled, or was aiming at someone else, because he stayed there and I was hauling when I saw him with it pointing our way. (I'm not sold on any radar detector doing the job as advertised in in regards to laser).

In AR I found it falsing on X quite a bit (had turned it back on just for AR) and am fairly certain one small town was actually running an X unit, but never saw the cop or could confirm.

See if they will let you upgrade when you send it in. Might be you can get in one for even less than this deal. Or you can bump all the way up to the ix model ($499 retail. Ouch!)

I'll inquire about upgrading. Good idea. As for 5 bills for the ix...with a new (to me) boat in the driveway, that just ain't hap'n.

Return it. :)

Just be sure they have them in stock at Rider Warehouse. The sale was for remaining stock.

I upgraded a 8500 that started going off all the time last year for a X50 model. I think they gave me either $50 or $75 dollar credit on the trade-in.

That is a good deal on the 9500 though.

If my car sells today I'm in. I need a new one. My current one is only slightly above a rock.

I bought one when they first came out and I could never go back to a non GPS radar detector. Once you get it dialed in its dead silent which really makes you aware when it does go off. Highly recommend for the price.
