I thought this recall was gonna fix Bryan B.'s problem. His 14 has trouble keepin' the front wheel on the ground.

Brians is a twelve, and they've had that problem since day one. No recall yet.

Oh.. and the problem is spreading. Randall's 08 Busa seems to have the same defect. That front wheel just won't stay down!

On the ZX14 board(s), there have been several frame failures, it's a pretty big deal, very scary failures too. I'm surprised it took this long to fix/recognize, as this issue has been voiced since mid 2007 with frame failures near the rear shock mount. So far, mine seems ok, but will get it checked out - soon.

Here's the letter I received with more details describing the problem, which someone else was nice enough to scan and post on the internet:

Basically, a fellow in Japan, let's call him Michael-san for this discussion, used the time-honored, German method for tightening nuts commonly referred to as the Gudentite method. Alternatively, Michael-san really liked his sake and found it calmed his nerves when around the "Big Boss".

(The characters in the above discussion are purely fictional. Any resemblance to real people living or dead is coincidental. The writer has great respect for all people and cultures, even those inept or lacking a torque wrench. Most animals were humanely drowned before they were butchered for the making of this post.)

The same Michael-san musta been on the 07 ZX10R clutch cover install team. Dealer said mine wasn't the first cracked cover they've had.

Mine is getting checked at dealer now...if it's over torqued, engine must be pulled, and frame probably replaced; ouch, this sucks!

Kaw is supposedly having some of the same issues with the 650. Upper engine mount bolts incorrectly spaced and overtorqued. I've read a couple of reports of upper motor mount cracks.

It's unfortunate that they worked all these years to improve their image on QC and then started taking shortcuts again. It's gonna hurt them even more because of the economic changes. Buyers are gonna think that if you have enough money to buy an expensive toy, why not just get a Honda?

I believe many Harley guys spend more time revving their engines than actually driving anywhere; I sometimes wonder why they bother to have wheels on their motorcycles.
