    Exclamation Got Gear??

Another advertisement for how leather saves skin:

I was cut off by a gray mini-van on the way to work Friday night. Locked up the front brake, low-sided, and departed positive control. The offending mini-van fled the scene at high speed.

Everything covered in leather or by my helmet has minor bruising at worst. Everything else is road rash (or worse). Not sure what the extent of the damage is at this time. Emergency room & radiology said there is nothing broken, but looks like there's probably some damage to left ankle and knee.

Frank Thomas leather jacket did it's job, and Scorpion helmet saved my life, according to EMS and ER staff, as it was one of the initial points of impact. AStars mesh/leather gloves burned through every piece of mesh and shredded the padded areas. Jeans provide negligible protection at 60-70mph, and wearing tennis shoes (left my boots at work by mistake) resulted in a shredded shoe and a lot of missing skin.

I doubt they will read this, but if anyone that stopped to assist me is reading this, I'm very grateful. I was lucky to have had the people that stopped to assist: Security guard dressed like a police officer stopped traffic, medical orderly from Ft. Sam tended to me until SAFD was on scene, and Joey from Alamo Cycleplex saw to the bike while I was down. PD, SAFD, and EMS all resonpded very quickly, and it was a whopping 5 minute ride to Downtown Baptist where I was greeted by a great ER staff and a wonderful doctor happy to administer morphine right away .

Looks like it will be a while before I can ride again, but really wanted to take this opportunity to preach again on the benefits of wearing proper gear. Once I figure out how to transfer my pictures from my Palm to my PC then I'll post follow up picks of the damage.

Be safe out there guys/gals. Or as Dad used to say, "Watch out for the guy directly behind the guy in front of you."

Sucks to hear, but glad the gear worked. Similar situation with my recent metal crushing adventure. Only difference is that I was fully geared from head to toe. A few broken bones but not a scratch on the ol' epidermis anywhere.

My only leather was my gloves and boots, everything else was mesh. just goes to show that even mesh is better than cotton any day.

While I'm not exactly enjoying all these "rider down" posts, it's always best to get the post from the rider him/herself.

    Heal quickly.

Dang Chris-hate to hear this. I am glad you are o.k.
Call or PM if you need anything. Not to sound insensitive but, how did the bike come out of it? Glad to hear that you will ride again.

The kind of wreck you had scares me the most, at night in town on the freeway. I'm glad you're ok for the most part. Hang in there.
