Do a Google search for Etymonics ER6. You can find all kind of links that can lead you to discounted prices, here are a couple:

    Link 1

    Link 2

Does this mean your actually going to get out and ride again??!

    Thanks, Gary.

Every vendor I checked was either out of stock or very expensive.

One vendor in Link 1 of your post says they're in stock & selling for about $90.....I'll check them out.

Yes, I will be riding soon.....Departing for Taos on Saturday...

Do they really do that good of a job at blocking out road noise (34-36 dB)?

What is the difference between the 6 and the 6i?

I don't know if the ER6's actually provide a 34dB reduction. For me, the ER6's block as much noise as the foam ear plugs that I use(which are very good). The ER6's allow me to listen to audio without adjusting the volume above normal levels.

I recently purchased some $80 Klipsch isolator earphones, as ER6 substitutes, but they are WAY too noisy while riding.

The 2 main ER6 & ER6i differences are the ear tip size & shape(which makes the ER6i much noisier) & the impedance of the drivers.

The Etymotic earphones need a sturdier cord. If you don't keep them secured somehow, the wind whipping the wires around will cause them to fail prematurely.

I'm not sure why Etymotic discontinued the ER6's......

On the website they claim the ER6i produces better bass response because they are "optimized" for smaller MP3 players than the ER6.
I guess bikes are like women. What you think you want, and what you really want, change after the first ride.

Yep....The 6i's do sound better when you're sitting around the house, but when riding & experiencing lots of wind noise, not so much. My ear shape accomodates the ER6 better.
