I'm in, but I'm probably too far out to make 8am at this point. Is anyone in for 9am?

Dave and I had a great ride today to Orzak's. We met up with an older Brit who was on a early 70's BSA triple. He wanted to ride back to Houston with us. So I led the way on the CBR1000. I was going a good pace when I looked back and the BSA was right on my rear. I picked up the pace several clicks and he was still there. Finally found a notch where I could stay a head far enough not to be embarrassed any longer that a vintage British bike was pushing me. Dave probably was laughing at me getting my butt kicked by a 80's man on a 70's bike.

Must have been our old friend Malcom.

Leather Jacket? Maybe with a horizontal white stipe?

Yes, it was Malcom. I have not seen him in 2-years. He was riding with a plate in his broken wrist and with injuries to his 2-fingers. Unbelievable!

I believe I made fun for him this day keeping up with an 08 CBR1000.

    Forgot about two almost incidents.

    1) Going to Fayetteville - Dog near road so Dave and I slowed down just in time to observe a Sheriff coming around the turn. Dog saved me!!! Thanks dog!!!!

    2) Coming home - Blind turn there was parked right in from me in my lane a 30' trailer and oncoming traffic so no room for go around braked just in time, however, Malcom's brakes did not work as well as mine and he made a path around the trailer and between the oncoming traffic. Very close. Why the trailer was parked in such a spot was beyond me. Nobody was in the truck that was pulling the trailer.

The rest of the ride was without incident.

I'm glad you are safe Fred.

Yesterday, I was traveling down 949 and just after the 35 mph left up towards the farm and the blind downhill right there was some obliviot going 20 miles and hour just after the crest of the hill talking on a cell phone. Since I was only going about 70 at the time I was able to stop. Had it been the normal SMR pace it could have been disastrous.

Great ride today, but I can't say a word about anyone else's riding because I could barely keep up with Malcom on that '68 Rocket 3. Guess my bike's weight and horsepower advantages are offset by my limitations as a rider.

I should have known something was up by looking more closely at his bike. Total track setup. No mirrors, turn signals, or functioning head or tail lights that I could see. And when he wound up the throttle you knew that the EPA hadn't touched that exhaust note.

Score one for the antique iron.

That said, score two for modern Japanese braking systems. The sudden appearance of a 30' trailer parked in the middle of the road was scary enough on a state-of-the-art sportbike. It must have been positively terrifying on a 40 year old bike.

Good 'ol Malcum has been ticketed so many times. I don't know how he manages to stay out of jail.
