    Default Shennanigans at Barber MotorSports

Overcooked the bird in turn 11, came into 12 way to hot, unloaded at the top of the hill and tucked the front. All in all a very easy laydown. Slight crack in the side cover that leaked radiator fluid. So, i'll switch to the small bike and finish up tomorrow.

And the Youtube for you guys that need live.

Glad you're OK and that the damage looks pretty superficial. Hope things go/went well today.

When you're done, I'd appreciate a write-up about what you think of Sportbike Track Time's Barber days. I really love that track and it looks like those guys have the most track days at that facility.

T11's exit can be tricky. Glad damage was light and that you had a backup bike. One of the benefits of riding at a first class facility is the manicured runoff.

Here's my write up. Barber is absolutley fabulous, i'll go back again as soon as i can. STT was a disapointment as far as the intermediate group went. I was fine on the ZX10R when i could run a fast pace and keep clean track. As soon as i switched to the GSXR600 it was a different ball game. There were four or five of us on Sunday that were running about 5 seconds off everbody else. Intermediate was explained as a 6' passing rule, and that didn't happen at all, i was passed all day long on the inside, close enough to read leathers, and not safely. Coming into turn T1 i was acutally passed three deep on the inside and two deep on the outside by a group of advanced riders that had no spots left so they bought intermediate. After that little shennanigan i started checking on the front and back straights for those guys behind me, which the instructors didn't like. Not suprising since an instructor cut off two of us going into T11 so close the guy in front of me almost clipped her back tire, he stood it up, i checked up hard. I'm comfortable running with guys that can pass safely, but most couldn't, so I was a little nervous. I can't comment on the Novice level, the two guys next to me in the paddock were very happy with the instruction and track control. STT does do something that i haven't seen before and that was accident investigation and statistics, that i like alot. They gave us the readout sunday for the wrecks on saturday, how many, what happened ETC, very nice information to have. All in all, i'd give STT a B-, they're not the worst i've ridden with, but they're in the bottom half of my list. If you're able to keep pace (high 1:40's) you're fine, but if you're in the mid 1:50's like i was on the 600, it may get dicey. If you run around 2:00 you're in trouble.

DISCLAIMER: This is just my opinion, but i will compile the video i have to back up my statements, for all i know i was just the slow guy messing up everybody else's day!

Absolutely, needed new tires put on, the Michellin Power Pure 2CT's i think. They had good grip and inspired confidence on a fast track.

Very nice. Still haven't made it to Barber, even as a spectator. Had requests to get out to Barber this weekend for the AMA round, but couldn't quite pull it off this week. One of these times I'll make it out there.

I love the track now as well. Too bad the organization you rode with was a B-.

Maybe I'll have to start riding in WERA events if I really want to get out there again!

not to dig up an old thread, but...

i just got back from Ridesmart's weekend event at Barber. It went very well. the ambulance did not move. it did not rain.

this thread came to mind when i was banging my boot on the ground going up into 12. i'm too heavy and/or the bike is too soft. i was wondering if you were smacking a foot peg thru that dip that could have helped unload the bike. i normally don't have anything touch the ground, but that turn was killing me. i had to take it easy thru there, or plan on pancaking myself on the pavement.

otherwise, a very fun track. judging by other's lap timers, i was doing about 1:50 in level 2. that put me about mid-pack. i played nice in level 1 also, so just over 500 track miles this weekend.

that's some clean passes, some weird stuff, that first shot was halarious, that's literally the warm up lap and he blow by like the points cup is on the line, you cant really see the smoke, but his rear tire was lit up trying to stop.

I've got woodcraft rearsets and a racetech suspension so i had no hard part issues on that track, either in turn 11/12 or 3/4. My laydown was determined by CSI - Barber to be an issue with my tire selection. I had Michelin power race A compound on and no tire warmers, so i heat cycled them till they turned to hard rubber. That turn was nice and stable for me all day on both bikes.
